Free ambient pads for worship, played live in your browser

AltarPad is a free pad player for worship leaders, solo musicians and church teams. Every pad is synthesized live with the Web Audio API, in all 12 keys, so there are no sample loops that repeat and nothing to download. Pick a key and the pad moves from chord to chord with crossfades of up to 15 seconds.

What you can do with it

  • Shape the sound. Five layers (Lows, Harmony, Shine, Breath and Air), plus low cut, high cut, reverb, tone and variation.
  • Play major, minor or neutral pads. The neutral pad has no third, so it sits under major and minor songs alike.
  • Build chord progressions. The sequencer loops up to 16 bars in 4/4 or 3/4 and follows your tempo.
  • Add rhythm. Tempo-synced stabs or arpeggios from 40 to 200 BPM, with four stab grooves, triplet rates and four arpeggio patterns.
  • Map a MIDI controller. Assign faders, buttons and keys with a learn mode, on a computer in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
  • Save and share presets. Save them to a free account, or send anyone a link that loads your exact sound, no account needed.

Made for worship teams

  • Fill the sound as a solo leader or a small band, without multitracks or an extra musician.
  • Bridge songs and moments: cover the gap between keys, and play under prayer, Scripture reading, communion or an altar call.
  • Start in seconds. Open the page on a laptop, tablet or phone and play through your DI box or mixer. No DAW or other software needed.

Questions and answers

Is AltarPad free?

Yes. Every key, all layers, the sequencer, the rhythm section and MIDI mapping are free to use, without ads or a paywall.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play, shape the sound and share a link without signing in. An account is only needed to save presets and to keep your MIDI mapping across devices.

What is a neutral chord pad?

A neutral pad has no third. It plays the root and the fifth, stacked over several octaves with a ninth on top, so it is neither major nor minor and fits under songs in both.

Does MIDI work on iPad, iPhone or Safari?

No. Safari and every iPhone and iPad browser lack Web MIDI, because Apple doesn't offer it to web pages. MIDI mapping works on a computer in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Everything else in AltarPad works in Safari and on iPad.
